A small, remote silver mining operation—owned and operated by her pack—has gone completely dark, and unraveling the mystery could be Piper’s big break. Although eager to prove herself, she won’t get far without Maxim’s help. Together, this unlikely pair of shifters will face subzero temperatures and supernatural horrors in the Land of the Midnight Sun. While struggling to survive the coming storms, they might even kindle a new flame — in each other’s arms.
This full-length, standalone novel is the first tale set in Lucy Lachance’s Second City Shifters universe. Out of her league but eager to know about her former mentor Piper accepted the mission and met Maxim, his guide and pilot. Maxim Chernov , a lonely were bear shifter and Piper O’Malley, an ex FBI agent werewolf shifter were going to work together in an interesting and very risky mission. This story was very entertaining, full of action, suspense, intrigue and memories. There were vampires and with them violence and fiery fights. Our heroes were strong, smart, skilled and resourceful. The chemistry was strong and the sexual tension won the fight. Enjoyed the descriptions of Alaska, the dialogs of Piper and Maxim and how the author developed the plot keeping the suspense and the mystery through all the story. First story that I read by this author and I liked her writing style.Product details

It started a little slow for me and there's a few plot points that I'd like more detail on but the characters were strong and the setting was interesting. I'm from Minnesota and waxed parkas required a quick trip to google to find out what the heck they are.
I haven't written a review in awhile. However, this sweet read pushed me to proclaim my pleasure in this story. The characters had some depth. The story had a nice pace- fast enough to hold your attention, but with enough pauses for reflection. I will read more of this series and I look forward to it!
Mystery, death, and mayhem are the order of the day in this new series. My first time reading this author's work it kept me interested from page one. A solitary bush pilot in the Alaskan tundra meets a "citified" werewolf on a mission. A sweet love story along with a successfully powerful Alpha sends Piper up from the civilized streets of Chicago to find her coworker and friend in the wilds of the Land of the Setting Sun. I'm intrigued to read more.
This is a very fun story with lots of action and really neat characters. I enjoyed reading it, especially that it is set in the Alaska Wilderness because it was so different from the usual shifter story. It has a different type of plot and plenty of action. I enjoyed reading it.
Piper and Maxim go on an adventure to find out what happened to Piper's friend and mentor. Maxim is a bush pilot, grumpy as hell, and Piper is a young, happy person who needs Maxim to take her to the mine where her friend went. It took two to three days to get there. Piper's friend as well as the other mine workers were dead at the hands of tundra vampires. To find out what happens next, you'll need to read this book. Great story, complex characters, a real page Turner. Enjoy!
I enjoyed reading this story. Having never read anything by the author I had no idea what to expect. I was not disappointed in my purchase. If you like shifter stories, intrigue, vampires, bad guys and a great story line you will want to buy this book. It takes place in the wilds of the Northern Alaska frontier. Maxim is a Kodiak bear and Piper is a wolf. These two main characters are a very unlikely pair. I give this book 5 stars.
What a story! it was fast paced, well build story-line and a lot of potential to grow into something big!
Piper is given the chance of a lifetime to proof to her alpha she's worth putting into action. what she didn't think about was her alpha sending her all the way up north, into the cold. but seeing she had to go find her mentor she didn't put up any fuss and started her journey full speed ahead. she was to find Maxim, a bush pilot up north who would be able to fly her over to where she should be.
when she met the man, a bear!, she tried to be nice but something about him ticked her off and she couldn't help but to poke the bear. once he agreed to fly her over, things between them settled somewhat. when he brings her home you can just feel the electricity between these two sizzling and sparkling.
as the two set off to find her mentor he updates her on the hard and harsh living conditions, the presence of vampires and their ruthlessness. as they both battle the weather, the vampire there is one battle they are losing each others attraction. once they give in there is no stopping them.
